VR devices such as the Oculus provide a wide range of uses, from providing virtual meeting spaces and worlds, to simulations and training applications, and of course, gaming and entertainment. As exciting as those prospects may be however, if your device is uncomfortable, unreliable or difficult to use, then the whole experience is affected. If the problem is significant enough, it often results in the device not being used at all.
If you struggle when using a VR device, the following products and advice may help alleviate or improve your overall enjoyment and use.
VR Sweat Mask
One of the most common challenges users face when using a VR headset is the problem of heat and sweat. 40–50% of human body heat is released through the head. Many devices employ a light-proof seal that traps heat inside the headset, even under “non/low activity” levels. If you use your device for games or exercise, the likelihood of getting sweat into your eyes and around your face can be a serious issue to contend with.
Thankfully, lightweight flexible “masks” can provide relief. These masks wick sweat away, keeping your vision clear and providing cooler and more comfortable experience overall. Many are washable, and some can be trimmed if needed. Users of the popular “Supernatural” app have reported having an improved experience overall while using a mask.
Everyone has heard tales of VR controllers flying out of the wearer’s hands, and often doing damage to people and things in the area. Almost all VR controllers include a standard “wrist strap” to help prevent damage in the event that the controller does “take flight”, however, wrist straps do nothing to prevent the problem in the first place, and do not provide a better controller experience.
